Gallbladder surgery cost in Brisbane

There is no single total that fits every person. The surgeon’s estimate is one part of the cost; hospital, anaesthetist and other provider fees may be separate. Ask for written information about each part before deciding on treatment.

What affects the cost of gallbladder surgery?

The total depends on the treatment proposed and the fees charged by the providers involved. A surgeon’s estimate is not the same as a hospital or anaesthetist estimate, so check what each amount covers.

01

The surgeon’s fee

This is the fee for a procedure personally performed by Dr Goutham. The rooms can explain what information is needed to prepare an estimate for the proposed care.

02

Hospital charges

Hospital charges are separate from the surgeon’s fee. If you have private cover, ask your fund and hospital about your policy, hospital benefits and any excess.

03

Anaesthetist fees

The anaesthetist may provide a separate estimate. Ask which anaesthetist is involved and how to request their current fee information.

04

Consultations, tests and other care

Consultations, investigations and other providers may involve separate fees. Ask which costs apply to your plan and who can provide each estimate.

Your cover and estimate

How private cover or self-funding can affect your estimate

Private health insurance does not by itself confirm that every part of a procedure is covered. The proposed treatment, your policy, hospital benefits and any excess can affect what you pay.

If you have private hospital cover

A known-gap arrangement may apply to selected eligible procedures. It is an agreed out-of-pocket amount for the surgeon’s fee where the arrangement applies; it does not include hospital charges, your policy excess, anaesthetist fees or other providers.

Do not assume a known-gap arrangement applies to gallbladder surgery or to your circumstances. Ask the rooms to confirm the surgeon’s fee arrangement for the proposed procedure, and ask your fund and hospital about your cover.

If you are self-funding

The surgeon’s fee may need an individual estimate. The rooms can explain what information is needed and which other estimates to request. Hospital and anaesthetist fees are separate, so ask those providers directly what applies.

Before you decide, gather the estimates and check whether consultations, investigations or other care have separate charges.

How to get written estimates

A consultation helps establish the proposed treatment and which fee information is relevant. You can ask questions, review the information and take time before deciding whether to proceed.

  1. 1

    Discuss the proposed treatment

Talk with Dr Goutham about your diagnosis and the care being considered. The estimate depends on the plan recommended for your circumstances.

  2. 2

Ask the rooms about the surgeon’s fee

The team can explain when written surgeon-fee information is available and what details are needed to prepare it.

  3. 3

    Request other providers’ estimates

Ask the hospital and anaesthetist what they will charge and whether your cover or excess affects your part of the cost. Compare the separate amounts before making a decision.

Common questions

Gallbladder surgery cost FAQs

How much does gallbladder surgery cost in Brisbane?

There is no single total that applies to everyone. The surgeon’s fee, hospital charges, anaesthetist fees and any other provider costs can be separate. Ask for current written estimates for the treatment proposed in your case.

Does a known gap apply to gallbladder surgery?

A known-gap arrangement only applies to selected eligible procedures and relates to the surgeon’s fee. Do not assume it applies to gallbladder surgery or to your cover. Ask the rooms to confirm the arrangement for your proposed procedure and circumstances.

Does private health insurance cover the whole cost?

Not necessarily. Benefits depend on your treatment and policy, and hospital charges, excesses, anaesthetist fees and other providers may be separate. Your fund and the relevant providers can explain the amounts that apply.

What if I do not have applicable private hospital cover?

The rooms can explain what information is needed for an individual surgeon-fee estimate and which other estimates to request. Ask the hospital and anaesthetist directly about their fees before deciding.

Will I receive a quote before deciding?

Ask the rooms when written information about the surgeon’s fee can be provided for your proposed care. Hospital, anaesthetist and other provider estimates may need to be requested separately. Request current written estimates from each provider and check what they include before deciding.

Are the consultation and investigations included?

Consultations, investigations and other providers may involve separate fees. Ask the rooms which costs apply and what referral information is needed for any Medicare rebate.
