Surgical Fees & Known-Gap Cover in Brisbane

In short

Dr Goutham Sivasuthan believes you should know your cost before you commit. Umbilical hernia repair, lipoma removal and haemorrhoidectomy are offered on a known-gap basis — a small, capped out-of-pocket confirmed in writing. For every other procedure, you receive a personalised, itemised written quote before you book. No surprises, and no pressure.

What “known gap” means

A “known gap” is a small, capped out-of-pocket amount — the part of the fee not covered by Medicare and your private health fund — that is agreed and confirmed in writing before your procedure. It is different from an open-ended fee: you know the figure in advance, so there are no surprises on the day.

Procedures offered on a known-gap basis

For the following common procedures, Dr Goutham offers a known-gap arrangement — a small, capped out-of-pocket confirmed in writing before booking:

Known gap

Umbilical hernia repair

Repair of a belly-button (umbilical) hernia. Learn more

Known gap

Lipoma removal

Removal of a benign fatty lump. Learn more

Known gap

Haemorrhoidectomy

Surgical treatment of haemorrhoids. Learn more

The exact known-gap amount is confirmed for you in writing before you book, and depends on your level of private hospital cover.

All other procedures — a personalised written quote

Because every patient and every operation is different, the cost of other procedures varies with the size, location, complexity and surgical approach involved. Rather than publish a figure that may not apply to you, Dr Goutham provides a personalised, itemised written quote before you book — so the price you see is the price for your situation.

What affects your cost

  • The procedure and how complex your case is.
  • Your private health cover — hospital cover that includes the relevant item numbers reduces your out-of-pocket cost.
  • The setting — day surgery or hospital, and the anaesthetic required.
  • Separate providers — the anaesthetist and hospital bill independently; we explain these in advance.

Medicare and private health funds

With a valid GP referral, Medicare provides a rebate for your specialist consultation and for many procedures. Private hospital cover then reduces your out-of-pocket cost further. Our team explains exactly what is covered for your situation before you commit to anything.

Frequently asked questions

What does “known gap” mean?

A known gap is a small, capped out-of-pocket amount that you pay in addition to what Medicare and your private health fund cover. Unlike an open-ended fee, it is agreed and confirmed in writing before your procedure, so you know your cost in advance.

Which procedures are offered on a known-gap basis?

Dr Goutham offers known-gap pricing for umbilical hernia repair, lipoma removal and haemorrhoidectomy. For these, you receive a small, capped out-of-pocket figure confirmed in writing before booking.

How much will my surgery cost?

It depends on the procedure, its complexity and your level of private cover. For all other procedures, Dr Goutham provides a personalised, itemised written quote before you book — there are no surprise fees.

Do I need private health insurance?

Private hospital cover reduces your out-of-pocket cost significantly. Medicare provides a rebate for the consultation (with a valid GP referral) and for many procedures. Our team explains exactly what is covered before you commit.

Will I be pressured to book?

No. You receive clear information and a written quote, and the decision is always yours, in your own time.
