Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgeon
Looking after patients in Brisbane, Redlands and Sunshine Coast, Dr Goutham Sivasuthan is a highly-skilled Australian-trained General, Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgeon with extensive experience across Upper Gastrointestinal, Colorectal, and Hepatobiliary surgical conditions. Dr Sivasuthan is committed to personalised, patient-centred care, ensuring each treatment plan aligns with each person’s goals and circumstances.
Education and Training
Dr. Sivasuthan earned a double degree in Medicine and Biomedical Science from the University of Queensland, completing his medical residency at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. His regional healthcare experience in Bundaberg and Mackay fostered a commitment to supporting rural communities, including his work with the Flying Surgical Service.
He completed rigorous General Surgery training, gaining advanced skills in minimally invasive techniques, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, and colonoscopy at leading Queensland hospitals, including Gold Coast University Hospital. After earning his FRACS, Dr. Sivasuthan pursued further fellowship training in upper gastrointestinal and general surgery at Sunshine Coast University Hospital, specialising in reflux and hiatal hernia surgeries.
Current Roles
Dr Sivasuthan works across some of Queensland’s busiest Acute General Surgery Units in Queensland Health. He is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Queensland, Lecturer at Griffith University, and an accredited endoscopist and colonoscopist with the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA). He also instructs the CCrISP program, training surgical trainees across Australia and New Zealand.
Personal Intersts
Outside of work, Dr. Sivasuthan enjoys family time with his wife, young daughter, and energetic dog, often exploring local nature walks or spending time at the beach. He also stays active through hiking and training at the gym.
